Not long after the closing performances from this year’s sold out HARD Summer, Gary Richards (A.K.A. Destructo and founder of HARD) made the announcement of HARD’s soon-to-be released 2013 Day of the Dead lineup. “Patience is a virtue the Day of the Dead line up is almost posted,” tweeted Richards on Monday afternoon to followers of the highly favored, yet still somewhat obscure, festival. Since its debut in Los Angeles back in 2007 HARD has grown on a remarkable scale, skyrocketing in attendees year after year as it expanded to cities like NYC, Miami and Detroit while simultaneously being taken under the wing of powerhouse entertainment company, Live Nation, last summer. By Wednesday afternoon, the wait was over as the now two-day event came out with their highly anticipated artist bill set to perform at L.A. State Historic Park on November 2-3.
Known for scheduling some of the dance music industry’s biggest names, both local and international, this year’s artist selection is no different. Headliners include Skrillex, Boys Noize, The Bloody Beetroots, Cut Copy, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Zeds Dead, Pretty Lights and Eric Prydz. Of course, HARD always has some surprise tricks up its sleeve, this year’s being Giorgio Moroder, Masters At Work and Prydz’s techno alias, Cirez D. Likewise, HARD is also praised for recognizing those smaller, less virally polluted names that don’t get as much media attention yet still make a splash in the underground realm― Maribou State, Tourist, Claptone, Wolf + Lamb, Dusky, The Magician, David Heartbreak, Kastle and various others. It may still be summer but October is looming around the corner, so get your Halloween costumes ready!
